Olympics at St Gabriel's

St Gabriel's has been involved in celebrating the games in a variety of ways.  In June and July classes from year 3 at Aldersbrook School have been creating a model of London including the Olympic Park, a mosaic, and large murals with an olympic theme.  You will find these on display in the church for the next few weeks during open church (10am - 12noon weekdays and Sunday mornings of course).

Then during the week leading up to the opening ceremony we held a wonderful Olympic themed Holiday Club together with the Parish of Wanstead.  Arts, sports, stories and song were all part of the event and around 50 children took part.

Saturday 28th July was our Olympic themed Summer fair and Sunday was designated as Olympic Sunday in our service as we used the Olympic Torch that Dean Gibson carried as part of the worship.

Carol Singing in Aldersbrook

It was a delight to join with friends from Aldersbrook Baptist Church and Aldersbrook Community Choir to sing in the streets on Monday 19th December to raise money for the Children's Society.  A very impressive £544 was raised on that evening alone thanks to the generosity of neighbours and the military efficiency of the collectors!

Wednesday evening was a sociable and warm start with carols and mince pies and wine in Perry Lodge followed by some more carols in the streets.  I don't have a figure of what was raised but Crisis will benefit from their efforts.

thanks to all who took part and look forward to  next time already!
